Med spa marketing in Sherman Oaks is a strange problem, because the demand is obviously there and that is exactly what makes it hard. The stretch of Ventura Boulevard between Woodman and Sepulveda has more injectors per mile than most American cities have in total, and nearly every one of them is bidding on the same handful of phrases: botox near me, lip filler Sherman Oaks, laser hair removal 91403. You are not creating demand. You are trying to intercept it about four seconds before someone books with the place two blocks east.
That changes what a plan should look like. Most advice written for med spas assumes a market with room to breathe: build awareness, post consistently, run a broad brand campaign. In a saturated four-mile stretch of the Valley, awareness spending mostly reminds people that med spas exist, and the nearest one collects the booking. What works instead is narrow, unglamorous and measurable: own the map, remove friction from the booking path, and buy only the searches that sit close to a transaction.
Below: what this costs in real ranges, what national ad benchmarks say a lead should run, what the Medical Board of California expects from the way you advertise, and the cases where you should not hire anyone at all yet.
The short answer: Med spa marketing in Sherman Oaks works best when it is narrow: a fully built Google Business Profile, a booking page that loads fast and takes a deposit, and paid search restricted to high-intent treatment keywords. Expect roughly $1,500 to $5,000 a month for a single location, with most of that going to media, not agency fees.

Why Sherman Oaks is a harder market than it looks
Three things make this specific market unusual.
Proximity does most of the ranking. In the Google local pack, how close a searcher is to your door is a heavy factor, and Sherman Oaks is dense. A competitor 0.4 miles away can outrank you for a searcher standing between you, no matter how good your content is. That is not a reason to skip local SEO. It is a reason to be realistic that local SEO buys you the radius around your address, not the whole Valley.
Your real catchment spills across three neighborhoods. People searching from Studio City, Encino and Van Nuys will happily drive to Ventura Boulevard. Most med spas build one page, aim it at their own ZIP, and never claim the surrounding intent. Separate, genuinely different pages for adjacent neighborhoods are one of the few durable advantages left here.
The customer is comparison-shopping in public. Before booking an injectable, people read reviews, scan before-and-afters and check prices across three or four spas in one session. If your price is not discoverable anywhere, you get skipped by every buyer who refuses to call to find out. Publishing a starting price is uncomfortable and it works.

What med spa marketing in Sherman Oaks actually costs
These are ranges seen in the Los Angeles market, not a price list, and not universal. A quote outside these ranges is not automatically wrong. Ask what is driving it.
| Line item | Typical monthly range | What pushes a quote to the high end |
|---|---|---|
| Local SEO and Google Business Profile management | $800 to $2,000 | Multiple locations, recovering from a profile suspension, starting from near-zero reviews |
| Paid search media spend | $1,000 to $4,000+ | Bidding on injectables in Q4, running competitor-name campaigns, broad match with no negatives |
| Ad management fee | $500 to $1,500, or 10 to 20% of spend | Multi-platform, creative production bundled in, weekly reporting calls |
| Website and booking page rebuild | $3,000 to $12,000 one-time | Custom integration with your booking or EMR system, multi-location templates |
| Reviews and reputation workflow | $200 to $600 | Compliance-aware review request flows, review response written for you |
Two questions worth asking any agency quoting you: what portion of this is media spend versus their fee, and what happens to the ad account if you leave. An agency that will not answer the second one plainly is telling you something.
If you want the general version of this math across industries, we broke it down in what digital marketing costs a small business.

The Google Ads math
WordStream's 2026 Google Ads benchmarks, drawn from 13,474 US search campaigns between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, give the closest thing to an honest starting point. These are national averages. Competitive Los Angeles markets typically run above them, and the Valley aesthetics market is competitive by any definition.
| Category | CTR | Avg CPC | Conversion rate | Cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beauty & Personal Care | 6.75% | $4.62 | 10.35% | $39.25 |
| Physicians & Surgeons | 6.61% | $4.76 | 12.43% | $40.04 |
| Health & Fitness | 5.81% | $6.17 | 6.94% | $67.36 |
| Dentists & Dental Services | 5.66% | $8.00 | 10.67% | $72.97 |

Here is a labelled hypothetical, not a client result. Say a Sherman Oaks med spa puts $2,000 a month into search. At the national Beauty & Personal Care average CPC of $4.62, that buys about 433 clicks and, at a 10.35% conversion rate, roughly 45 leads, about $44 each. Now assume the real thing: your CPC comes in at $9 because you are bidding against a dozen spas on Ventura. The same $2,000 buys about 222 clicks and roughly 23 leads, at about $87 each. At a $650 average first treatment and a one-third booking rate, that is 7 or 8 appointments and about $4,900 in first-visit revenue on $2,000 of media, before your fee, your time and your cost of goods.

Send me the checklistThat math can work. It also breaks the moment your conversion rate drops, which is why the booking page matters more than the ad. If people are clicking and not booking, the problem is almost never the keyword; we walk through the usual causes in how to turn website visitors into clients.
Compliance and what the Medical Board of California expects
This is not legal advice. Verify anything here with the Medical Board of California and with a California healthcare attorney before you change how you advertise.
The Medical Board of California publishes a consumer page on medical spas that is blunt about how it sees the category: "Medical spas are marketing vehicles for medical procedures. If they are offering medical procedures, they must be owned by physicians." The Board also states that procedures must be performed by "a physician, or a registered nurse or physician assistant under the supervision of a physician," and that while a supervising physician "does not have to be onsite, he or she must be immediately reachable."
The marketing consequence is direct. Your website, your ads and your Google Business Profile services list are all evidence of what you claim to offer. Advertising a medical procedure you are not structured to deliver lawfully is a compliance problem before it is a marketing problem. The Board also warns consumers to "use caution if procedures are being heavily marketed, with high-pressure sales techniques promising unrealistic results," which is a fair description of a lot of med spa advertising, and a reason to keep yours boring and specific.
Two more bodies shape your creative. The FTC's Endorsement Guides govern testimonials and before-and-after imagery, including whether results shown are typical and whether an incentivized reviewer disclosed it. And if patient photos or records are involved, HHS/OCR is the relevant authority on what you may publish and what authorization you need. Do not take rule numbers from a blog post, including this one. Check the primary sources.
On the industry numbers, sources disagree. The American Med Spa Association's own statistics page cites industry revenue of "$17B+" growing "$1B+" a year, without naming the year the figure applies to. A February 2024 article from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association, citing AmSpa's 2022 Medical Spa State of the Industry Report, puts projected 2023 revenue at $20 billion and reports that 70% of med spas were not affiliated with a medical practice as of that 2022 report. Those two numbers are not reconcilable from public information, so treat any single med spa market-size figure you see in a sales deck with suspicion, including ours.

What this means for a Sherman Oaks med spa owner
If you run a single location and your monthly marketing budget is under about $1,500 all-in, do not hire an agency yet. The fee eats the media, the media is too small to produce signal, and you will conclude that marketing does not work when what actually happened is that you bought three months of reporting. Spend it on your Google Business Profile, your review volume and a booking page that works on a phone, then revisit.
If you are above that, the order of operations is unglamorous: fix the booking path, claim the map, then buy traffic. Buying traffic first is the most common and most expensive mistake in this market. The map side of that is covered in how to rank higher on Google Maps.
And if an agency's pitch leads with follower growth, brand awareness or a monthly content calendar before anyone has asked what a booked appointment is worth to you, that is a pitch built for a different business than yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much should a Sherman Oaks med spa spend on Google Ads per month?
There is no universal figure. Work backward instead: take your average first-visit revenue, multiply by the share of leads you actually book, and that is the most a lead can be worth to you. Budget below it. For a single Valley location, monthly media in the $1,000 to $4,000 range is common, with results that vary widely by treatment mix.
Is Instagram worth it for a med spa, or is it just vanity?
It is worth it as proof, not as a lead source. People who find you through search will check your Instagram before booking, and a thin or abandoned profile costs you conversions. Expecting it to generate bookings on its own, in a market this saturated, is where the money gets wasted.
Why do my ads get clicks but no bookings?
Usually the booking page, not the ad. The most common causes are a page that takes more than a few seconds to load on cellular, a booking form that asks for more than a name, phone and treatment, and no visible price anchor. A distant fourth is keyword targeting.
Can I advertise a treatment my medical director supervises remotely?
That is a legal question, not a marketing one. The Medical Board of California addresses supervision requirements directly, and the answer depends on the treatment, your staffing and your ownership structure. Confirm it with counsel before it appears in an ad.
